7 Simple Ways To Practice Self Care (Even When You’re Super Busy)
So… you have a lot of things on your plate. You’re a mom, a single professional, or a business owner and on top of that, you have personal dilemmas to deal with.
You’re overwhelmed and exhausted. You’ve heard about self-care and how important it is but you’re not sure how you can implement it in your daily routine?
If this is your dilemma, I want you to know that you’re not alone. There are many people, myself included who need this, but have little to no time to practice it… or so we think.
The truth is, you can do it almost anytime you want without delaying your other tasks.
This is a common question that’s quite hard to answer.
I get it.
We all have that long to-do list that we try to get through every single day and other than that, we also have to deal with the random stuff that comes up.
I sometimes struggle to maintain my self-care because of everything — raising a child, growing a business, dealing with personal dramas, to name a few. Things are already complicated so I make sure that my self-care is simple.
Gone are the days when I stress myself following wellness influencers, telling myself that “I need to get my A game on”, schedule all the yoga sessions, go to the gym, eat raw vegan, and everything in between. Nah, sis! That ain’t my self-care and you should not force yourself to do the same things, too.
Over the years of my self-care journey, I realized that self-care is something personal.
It doesn’t have to be hard or a huge commitment.
It can be something you can do in less than 10 minutes, which is a huge help if you’re too busy.
It can as simple as the following practices:
Drink a cup of herbal tea: You can make it as simple or in-depth as you want to. A great way to do this is to get yourself some tea, boil the water, allow the aroma of the blend to fill the space, and sip with intention. Do this without any distraction and take in the moment with all your senses.
Take a walk: When you go outside, you have the opportunity to take in the beauty of the world. Listen to the sounds, become aware of the little things, take in the people, the culture, the vibe. If you live near a park, embrace the lushness of the greenery. Truly, there is so much to see and experience.
Take a long shower: A longer meditative shower can be one of the best experiences. It gives you space to have a mini spa in your own space, where you are comfortable and relaxed. Boost the experience by adding a candle, incense, or some fresh eucalyptus to the space. Use the water to wash away any negativity and let it nourish you with good vibes and intentions you want to bring into your life.
Spend time with loved ones: You may forget how much joy your loved ones bring into your life, so put an effort into taking some uninterrupted time with them. Get to know them better, play games, watch a new movie/show on Netflix. Just be in the moment and enjoy your time with your loved ones, whether it’s with your family or friends.
2-Minute Meditation: Meditation is a helpful practice that gets you relaxed. You might see others meditate for 10 or 30 minutes or even an hour. The good news is you don’t have to do that. You can start small and meditate in as short as 2 minutes or as long as you want. It’s also as simple as sitting and listening to your inner self and what it has to share.
Journal: Writing is a perfect way to help you release all the things that bother you, things you want to manifest more or to get your ideas out. If you want to make it simpler, I suggest that you try bullet journaling.
Have a treat: Life calls for sweet treats or whatever favorite treat you have in mind. Don’t limit yourself but also don’t go overboard. Life is all about balance. Don’t feel guilty about having that ice cream, a glass of wine, or whatever fits your fancy at the moment.
